BUILD YOUR WARDROBE CAPSULE
Do you know what I think this year is primed for? Simplifying. HOW TO DO THIS? By knowing what works for you and what does not. It’s letting go of old beliefs + behaviors and embracing a lighter feeling with those decisions. It’s also being inspired to make new changes for this brand-spanking, fresh-start, high-hopes, never-looking-back NEW YEAR!!
But first, let’s define simplify.
Simplify is to make something easier; to reduce to basic essentials; to diminish in scope or complexity. Can you see where I’m going with this???
Let’s discuss some ways to do that and get inspired to simplify and make anew.
When it comes to simplifying your personal style we need to start with the foundations of style; knowing how we want to present ourselves, what our style is and how to dress our body. Once we have a clear understanding of this we can edit our wardrobe so it supports us rather than confuses and/or depresses us.
To simplify your wardrobe is not to simply rotate through your 3 favorite comfy loungewear outfits. Nor is it NOT caring about what you wear because you see exactly 5.5 people a week. Nope. Simplifying the AYIS method is to have clarity about what works for YOU and what’s right for YOU. It’s keeping it simple by reducing everything to your best essentials AND still being intentional, aka making an effort.
This is sounding a bit like a capsule wardrobe in my opinion.
So, what is a capsule wardrobe?
It is a grouping of clothes that work well together so you can create many outfits. There are many themes – professional, casual, social or seasonal and varying options for how many pieces you should have.
The benefits of a capsule wardrobe are plenty. You’ll be saving money from buying unnecessary clothes, you’ll be able to get dressed more quickly, you’ll have ease + confidence that everything in your closet suits you beautifully, and you’ll have less overwhelm with having too many clothes aka too many choices which can actually dampen the creative process of getting dressed. Did you know we actually only wear 20% of the clothes in our closets anyway? True.
If you’ve been interested in a capsule wardrobe but don’t know where to start, here are some tips to begin.

PERSONAL STYLE TIPS
Capsule Wardrobe Foundations
1. KNOW YOURSELF
Which is to know your style; know how to dress your body shape and geometry; know your colors; and be realistic about your lifestyle and what stage of life you are in.
2. Decide what size capsule you want – 30 pieces? 35? 40?
For 30, for example, choose 4-6 bottoms, 8-10 tops, 3-4 outer layers, 5 shoes and 5 patterned or colorful pieces – accessories, blouses/sweaters. (Pajamas and workout clothes not counted)
3. Now, decide on the theme.
You can have a capsule for work or social and leave the rest of your closet as is. Or an example would be to have 3 different capsules – professional, social, and casual.
A capsule wardrobe requires confidence and acceptance. Confidence to know that having just what you love and need is enough.
Once you curate your closet you might need to add a few items. The month of January is a time for terrific sales. Items you have been eyeing might just be marked down.
