Because I live in the Northern Hemisphere, I think of February as a transitional month that bridges the darkness of winter to the brightness of spring. February is a wonderful time to prepare for the upcoming season ahead as well as a time to refresh your mindset; begin to crawl out of the darkness, if you will.
It’s easy to jump the gun and think that spring has arrived when you see the flower bulbs emerging and the arrival of the spring collections on display. You desperately want to start wearing your lighter clothes as you suddenly realize how tired you are of your winter wardrobe or how you’ve grown tired of your cozy ritual of lighting candles and building fires. But hold on, we’re not there, yet! That’s why this month is a perfect time for you to prepare and to get ready for what’s to come. The anticipation of what’s to come will help you through.
As far as your INTERIOR style….
You want to prepare to refresh your interiors to make them reflect the change that is coming. We are transitioning from the cozy atmosphere of winter to a more energetic way of being in our homes and we want that energy and lightness to reflect in our interiors. Here are some ways to make this shift ::
MY 5 FAVORITE interiorS TIPS
Finish burning your moody atmospheric candles and begin stockpiling your springtime fragrances that will inspire you. Some of my favorite springtime scents are Astier Mantes la Jolie or Villa Medici.
Over your morning coffee, begin curating your vase collection. Do you have some that you never use and could be passed on? Do you have a variety of sizes? Do you have enough? Think about unconventional vessels like a petit silver pitcher or colored water glasses.
Do you put slipcovers on your furniture for the spring and summer? Are they ready to go or is this a good time to send them to the dry cleaners?
Does your house or certain rooms need a little TLC? A fresh coat of paint – maybe a color you have always wanted to try or a special wallpaper you’ve been eyeing? I have always been a fan of Farrow and Ball paint colors . I find with the brightness of spring + summer that it becomes obvious which areas of my house need a bit of TLC.
Indoor plants – what a great time of year to buy a few 3” hyacinth or crocus pots and place them in bathrooms or on bedside tables. Such a gentle reminder of what is coming.
