September is always a bittersweet time, in my opinion. It is full of transitions and contradictions. For instance, on some level, you’re sad summer is coming to an end. But on another level, you’re happy to see the heat and the unstructured nature of summer fade away. Adios!
Being in transition or in limbo can be difficult for some people. It feels unsettling and can create an underlying anxiety. But . . . before we know it, we shift into a new routine and are in the swing of everything this new season has to offer. My advice is to take advantage of each day as it comes and enjoy the rhythm of this month.

As far as your LIFESTYLE for this month . . .
The transition between seasons at this time of year is hardest for me when it comes to being outdoors. I am an outdoor nut and can’t think of anything better than spending time outside – especially when it comes to eating a meal. My middle name should actually be Al Fresco 😉
But, just because the weather gets chillier does not mean we have to go inside. My suggestion is to layer up and get cozy. And while we’re at it, providing each guest a blanket for their lap is the ultimate in hostessing.
Here are some tips to help you plan your last al fresco dinner party before its just too damn cold! Et voila. Transitional dining.

MY 5 FAVORITE LIFESTYLE TIPS
PICK A THEME.
Imagine you are in Provence or the Italian countryside. Let your imagination wander as you plan the menu, cocktails and ambiance. Paper lanterns in the trees perhaps??
START YOUR PARTY WITH A COCKTAIL HOUR.
A favorite of mine is to greet my guests at the front door with a special themed cocktail. AND, served always in a festive glass!!!
multiple SETTINGS.
We always start out having cocktails on our patio. As we get closer to dinner we then transition out to the garden to eat by the fire. I think changing the setting makes a party more interesting and well thought out.
SERVE THE MEAL FAMILY STYLE.
I love the interactive nature of passing dishes around and sharing. I especially love doing this when I have guests at the table who are not familiar with one another.
EASY DOES IT.
Plan an easy menu full of salads and grilled meats so you can be outside with the party and not cooking in the kitchen missing out.
