March is the time of year when spring begins to emerge and we begin to shift our thoughts to wanting/needing everything to be warmer, prettier and quite frankly, easier.
We get excited about bringing FRESH FLOWERS into the house – although if you’ve been hanging out around me you know I think you should have fresh greens and/or flowers in your home year-round. We are giddy about a lighter and more COLORFUL WARDROBE and cannot wait to shed the heavy layers. We may try a more simple MAKEUP ROUTINE with fresher colors, or maybe we even go for a more modern haircut. And we most certainly begin to put our focus on our GARDENS no matter how large or small our patch of land is.
However, if you want to mark the change between the seasons, it’s a really good idea to take the month of March to plan ahead now so you are ready when that time comes next month (or more if you live near me).
As far as your INTERIOR STYLE, you want to prepare to refresh your interiors to make them reflect the change that is coming. We are transitioning from the cozy atmosphere of winter to a more energetic way of being in our homes and we want that energy and lightness to reflect in our interiors. Here are some ways to prepare for the changing season:
Place a massive bundle of spring branches in a tall vase to create height in your living room.
THINK OUT OF THE BOX
Tuck smaller vessels around the house with bright colored tulips. (think out of the box : silver cup, small pitcher)
Do you change your bedding between winter and summer? Now is time to make sure your lighter linens are ready to go next month.
If you are entertaining for Easter or Passover start planning your table and menu now. Anticipation is so much part of the enjoyment – especially this year.
Do you have an outdoor space you enjoy in the warmer months? Now is a good time to update this area with maybe new pillows, blankets, hurricane candle stands or maybe this is the year you hang lights above and create a festive mood for your upcoming alfresco dinners.
